New Color Directions from Benjamin Moore
I recently viewed the new Color Stories from Benjamin Moore and decided to share these inspiring new colors with you. There a eight new palettes to choose from. I will highlight most of them in the next 3 posts. I love to use Ben. Moore paints for my design projects because the colors are easy to work with. The paint itself is a quality product that goes on easily and is durable (my painter loves it too). Not to mention the paint has low VOC’s so its good for the environment. TRIMS, TASSELS AND BEADED FRINGE
Design is in the details and all manner of trims and fringes are part of the multi layered look so essential for today’s interiors from modern to traditional styles. Trims are one of my favorite ways to complete a design project and add a touch of individuality.

One of my favorite seasons is almost here. There is something about the fall colors of rust, orange, gold, and red that make us feel ready to come inside. Add some interesting textures and you’ve got an interior design that feels all warm and cozy.

Bold, geometric shapes are everywhere in interior design this year. They make strong statements in fabric, wallpaper, furniture design and even lighting in modern and traditional styles. Here are a few examples that caught my eye.

Just about this time every year I start to think about spring. Don’t we all? I was inspired by these new introductions to some outdoor furniture lines that I like. Each one of them is inviting and enticing, reminding us that warm weather is on the way!

I was really drawn to the clean lines of this outdoor furniture group called Bloc by Gloster. It’s so tailored and comfotable looking it could go inside too.

More from Gloster. Very simple, modern styling that lets you change out the synthetic slings for more color options. I happen to love the turquoise-so cool, yet energizing.

Mid Century Modern goes outside. This take on the original Eames chair from the 1950′s is made in durable materials and finishes to withstand the elements. ”Outdoor Eames” from Design Within Reach.

More modern styling from Gloster. This group is called Cloud. Aptley named. All fabrics are acrylic (weatherproof)

During the middle part of the 20th century, the 1950′s – early 1970′s, architecture and interiors were defined by the simple, sleek lines of minimalist design. Low slung, small scale furniture and the horizontal line were the norm. Furniture in basic shapes and unusual materials broke the mold. What follows are some popular icons of what we call” Mid- Century Modern”

Stahl House designed by Pierre Koenig in 1960 is the eptiome of reductivist architecture. “With its welded steel frame and roof deck, overhanging eaves and open-air swimming pool it represents the “Contemporary” style of 1950′s California”. from the American House book by Phaidon
The brick fireplace, redwood wall and low slung furniture are perfect examples of “modernism” from the mid 20th century. From the Naturally Modern book by Ros Byam Shaw.

“ Naguchi” table with glass top and 2 part movable base is a popular piece in today’s “modern” interiors.

Eames chair from the 1950′s in moulded plywood and leather designed by husband and wife team Charles and Ray Eames.

Eichler Homes first designed in 1950 by Joseph Eichler, were affordable homes built in the San Francisco Bay Area. Typical features include “open floor pans, high ceilings, exposed redwood beams and underfloor heating. Bedrooms and bathrooms are often on the street side to reinforce the private nature of the main living space” which overlooks the back yard. There are 11,000 of these homes being lived in today! Great style. From the American House book by Phaidon.
